I was had a friend say “I didnt realize this until much later but dune is an allegory for the oil wars” And another friend was like, “more like the oil wars are an allegory for dune.”. While I think Villeneuves adaptation must be and will be radically different, if I'd like to see anything retained, it's elements of the Toto/Eno soundtrack. Zimmer can do his own thing too, but incorporating the Toto main theme and Eno's Prophecy Theme in a new way (much like, for example, Zimmer adapted Tears in the Rain for Bladerunner 2049) would be awesome.

Adore this film, but I have to admit having read the book that your version flows better, also kudos for getting rid of irulan's oh, I forgot to say line at the beginning. That always bugged me ever since my first viewing. What an absurdly clunky bit of dialogue. Even as a kid of ten or eleven watching the film for the first time I wondered how that line got past an edit. EDIt: actually, having thought about it now, I think Villeneuve has a hell of a lot to live up to with his adaptation. I'm cautiously optimistic, but I worry that (if blade runner 2049 is any indication) that it'll be at least competent, somewhat visually striking, but a bit cold and austere, lacking some of the soul that this version has.

If anyone can make a dune film work it's denis villeneuve. That things are left out is expected. But why does the film have to seem so hurried? Characters get no time to step into, well. character. Instead, they have a quick "thinking monologue" to the camera and that's it. The movie uses the basic story from Frank Herberts masterpiece, but not only fails to tell it right, it changes it to fit "the basic movie plot. Instead of showing Paul as a would-be saint/hero/messiah, he IS the messiah with god-like powers and all. Which is just about as wrong as you can go. The only point of Herberts that this film is making, is that if you put a lot of people in a sort of committee to make decisions, they will muddle up things and do a worse job than one man could have done alone. Lynch was not allowed to do the film as he wanted, but was controlled from the producers side. And look at the result.
